WHEN WE WERE BORN

When We Were Born

Who ever thought you’d be this beautiful?
Who ever knew you’d turn out very cute and handsome?
The imprint of greatness had been ingrained in you; who could see or know it?
World champion is who you’re; ever envisaged it?

When we were born, oh! How innocent we were?
Looking at those eyes, what do you see?
You could see a heart with no guile
A heart full of obedience and ready to do what’s requested

When we were born, oh! How innocent we were?
Looking at those tender feet, you’re tempted to think they’ll never walk
Legs that knew in their formative years that
There was bound to be rising and falling but kept at it

When we were born, oh! How innocent we were?
Looking at those shirtless bodies without covering; who ever cared or gave a damn about it?
Running in the smiles of the skies and playing in the tears of the heavenly
Falling and getting injured and feeling it won’t heal

When we were born, oh! how innocent we were!
There was that precocious heart
Always wanted to be called, “Smart Kid”
Writing and passing exams without reading and thought there was nothing called failure
O! When we were born, what innocence radiated through us.

Live radiantly!

This poem is dedicated to my little cousin, Isabelle Eke. She was the inspiration for this piece on the day I set my eyes on her beautiful picture (used).
